Quote of the Week: Tomislav Sunić, “Postmortem Report”

tomislav sunicWhat makes a people? A people has a common heritage and a will to a common destiny. A people exists despite superficial cleavages such as parties, interest groups, and passing trends in ideologies. As Georges Dumezil, Mircea Eliade, and Carl G Jung have demonstrated, a people shares a ‘mythe fondateur’ – a communal myth that gives birth to original cultural endeavors. The culture of a people, recalls Alain de Benoist, is its identity card and its mental respiration, and ‘it is a passport for a future that takes the shape of destiny’.
