Reactionaries Demand: That The Revolution Stop

reactionary poster - reactionaries and revolution 2

“Reactionaries demand that the revolution stop because the Guillotine has done enough.” (Thomas Carlyle Club for Young Reactionaries; Radish Magazine)

“That a good man be ‘free’, be permitted to unfold himself in works of goodness and nobleness, is surely a blessing to him, immense and indispensable; – to him and to those about him. But that a bad man be ‘free’, – permitted to unfold himself in his particular way, is the fatallest curse you could inflict on him; curse and nothing else, to him and all his neighbors.” (Thomas Carlyle)

The image used in the poster is the “Battle at San Domingo” by January Suchodolski. Not many people know about the involvement of the Polish legions during the Haitian Revolution, and the circumstances that would lead the Poles to fight there. It was ultimately quite a disastrous campaign, but worth studying by anyone who wants to understand the course of European history in the modern era.
