Quote of the Week: James Kalb, “Against Inclusiveness”

james b kalbIt is very difficult for liberal public discussion to reject and suppress the clear indications of science and scholarship, but inclusiveness must do so in order to deny the stubborn difference among groups. It is a situation that must somehow be resolved, and the method adopted is to redefine reason and reality to comply with the demands of inclusiveness and stomp on anyone who notices there is a problem.

All inquiry treated as legitimate must yield politically correct results, and the process that arrived at them has to be presented as unquestionably free and rational. The result is corruption of biology, sociology and psychology, as well as political and ethical thought. Science and scholarship become distorted, journalism tendentious, and education propagandistic. The obvious must be ignored or treated as inconceivable, so that the world becomes incomprehensible.
