Guest Video: “Can Foreigners Wear Kimono?”

Today’s Guest Video is by Yuta (“That Japanese Man Yuta” on YouTube) and is titled “Can Foreigners Wear Kimono?” This is an interesting digression from the more explicitly political, cultural and philosophical bent of SydneyTrads. However, given that Yuta asks ordinary Japanese what their opinions are concerning the so-called “cultural appropriation” of their national dress by Westerners, it is relevant to a debate that touches upon our mission: to encourage the reassertion of our people’s cultural and civilisational confidence. Recent events, mainly in the United States, have highlighted the the vehemence with which the AltLeft’s culture war against Western and European identity has been prosecuted in recent years. The phenomenon of “cultural appropriation” is merely the latest offensive against a people who have been almost completely disarmed through suicidal altruism and ethnomasochism, two ideological currents foisted onto them by agents of cultural Marxism. The claim that manifesting something, anything, originally sourced from another culture is “offensive” and therefore “racist” has been hurled at White students at university and college campuses; of course, these same Whites are also not permitted to celebrate their people’s identity, because that too is would be “offensive” and therefore “racist”. But is there any basis to the claim that some foreign cultures whose artifacts seem to be popular in the West take umbridge at this “appropriation”? Yuta’s brief street survey would suggest not. Indeed, almost all of the young Japanese interviewed seemed mystified at the controversy, and some even thought the Western appropriation (e.g. the wearing of a Kimono) was flattering.
